About Taxing Thoughts
Taxing Thoughts is an independent publication written by me, David Rose. I demystify complex tax issues - helping accountants, tax advisers, business owners and finance directors.
I'm no stranger to explaining complicated rules in a simple way; throughout my career I have delivered training whilst a tax inspector with HMRC, and more recently leading teams in private practice. I am a regular presenter on CPD courses for accountants, tax advisers, and lawyers and the one thing I really enjoy is writing.
If you subscribe today, you'll get access to a regular supply of up-to-date, useful articles as well as email newsletters containing helpful tax analysis. Your subscription makes this site possible, and allows Taxing Thoughts to continue to exist. Thank you!
Tax Areas
I write across the full-range of tax areas, but I find that corporate and personal tax tend to be the most popular. I will from time to time write about VAT, Inheritance tax, and other taxes as (relatively) interesting topics arise.

Stay up to date with new content sent straight to your inbox! Free members get access to one Newsletter a month, whilst paid-for members get access to weekly newsletters and webinars (if the CPD option is chosen).
More about me
I trained with HM Revenue and Customs on their graduate programme after reading law at university. I had been an investigator for a few years before going to university and always knew I wanted to go into tax! That might sound strange, but I knew I'd enjoy the problem solving challenges and had previously worked in accountancy roles and was AAT qualified.
I now have a second degree (Professional Studies in Taxation) and I am a member of both the Association of Taxation Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, where I sit on the Professional Standards Committee.
I have practised across all areas of direct tax, now specialising primarily in business taxation. I have always delivered training to colleagues. At HMRC, I designed and delivered courses to over 150 inspectors in London. Since going into practice, I have presented to in-house accountancy teams, lawyers, other tax professionals and more online.
Outside of work, I enjoy all sorts of music, photography, and cars.
